MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1275 Engine/Gearbox Oil Leak
I have a 1275 midget that has suddenly started losing a lot of oil from the cotter pin (Split Pin) drain hole. As there is no rear oil seal, just a thrower, I cannot see why there is this sudden high oil loss. I have taken the sump off and the rear bearing cap and everything looks perfect. Could it be the leak is from the gearbox? There was a lot of oil in the bell housing. |

Have you disconnected the crankcase breather by any chance? |

Ah!!! The breather has been re-routed into a catch tank. Actually, it's my son's car. I certainly get your drift...crancase pressure causing oil to flow out through the thrower. Thanks. |
