MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Mot electrics

Some time in the past someone has put the side dipped and main beam lights on a toggle switch on the dash. The horn push is also on the dash. Do you think these will pass an MOT? The car is a 65 car so I think it would have had a foot operated switch for the lights originally.Any thoughts, Mike.

I dont understand this Mike

My 66 car has its lighting contolled by a toggle switch on the dash, they all do until later when the rocker switch dashes were introduced

My switch starts with sidelights, then turns on the headlights

The dip switch SHOULD be on the floor but mine is dipped using a later type indicator switch with main/dip switching installed, which also allows me to flash main beam on the road whether the lights are on or not as well as giving me a horn button on its end cap.

If the lights can be controlled by the driver using whatever switches are in use I dont see that an MOT fail would ensue. When he asks for main or dip or indicate left or right, then checks the indicators and brake lights at the back with the tail lights he only cares that he can see them and that they comply with the requirements.

Thanks for this, sorry I didnt really explain very well and didnt check the car before I sent it!There is the original toggle light switch and then an extra toggle for main beam. The indicator stalk is the old fashoned type, no horn push and no facility to push forward for main beam as far as I can see.If you think it would be ok for MOT I wont bother meddling.

Cheers Mike.

So long as its wired so that you cant have full & dip on together I cant see an issue.

My local place get me to do all flicking of switches etc . I could be touching 2 bare wires for all they know.

I think its mostly so the bloke doesnt have to try and get in....and partly I'd have to tell him what switch did what anyway. I have a 74 which strated life with rockers but now has everything moved back to tooggles....which are all unlabelled.

No problem Mike

If you can get your hands on a later type switch I can recommend them for convenience though, everything in one place, after the lights are switched on of course.
