MG Midget and Sprite Technical - new cam - which carb setup to use

I have just put an uprated cam in my 1275. I shall also be fitting a 10:1 MG Metro head. Should I run in the cam with the previous known working carb setup (twin HS2's) or put on the HIF44/Titan setup which I also intend fitting. I don't want to spend a lot of time sorting the carb setup which would compromise the running in of the camshaft. I have applied plenty of cam lube but want to get the cam run in as soon as possible.

Steve - there's a great deal of personal preference in this. This is what I would do:

1. Get the system running with previous carb system; run until hot and make sure everything is fine. Your mixture may be a little weak, but that's not a worry for fast idle in the garage.

2. Put the HIF44 in with the recommended needle (plently of experience of this on the BBS); get this system working and use on the road.

BTW with a 10:1 CR you may find the std dissy has too much advance for the mid range, and causes heavy pinking or even detonation when acceleraing 2-3Krpm. The short term fix is an octane booster and retard the ignition timing a few degrees. The longer fix is a modified dissy - Aldon 100AYV.

Thanks A,
I already use Valvemaster plus for lead replacement and octane booster.
I have had the pulley machined so that I can run a Megajolt system eventually so the dissy issue may not be a problem. Maybe next winter's project. In the mean time I will follow your recommendations.
