MG MGA - Crossflow Information

I seem to have sparked a bit of interest with my request for serial numbers of any original HRG Derrington heads, as well as several requests for information about them and fitting instructions, so I banged together a web page that offers some info at http://www.rhodo.citymax.com/HRG.html

Bill- Thanx for the insights.....and great rhododendrons too! I waited 6 months for Peter Burgess to get to my work and do me an SC head and flow the MSX cross flow sent him. When back it went on an engine compiled 4 years ago by Doug Jackson: 60 over 10:1 AE forged, Elgin, Aldon, new 1 3/4 , Doug's 1,55:1 rollers, etc. In recent running against the SC car and with the Burgess head and Sierra 5 speed on the cross flow, I was getting 9.5 times 0-60, of which I am proud. The sc was running about 8.5 . The cross went to 63-6500 without float or a single groan and was still pulling. Have you talked to Cameron yet for his data? Vic

Sounds like a nice tune for a street/mild competition engine. I still run the HRG in the TVR on a 3 main 1840 engine with 40 DCOE Webers and 10.5 compression and it is very tractable.

Not quite as nice as the 12:1 Twincam in the other car, but still pretty peppy.

I've not heard from Cameron yet.

Bill- Thanks, that is the info I have been looking for. I've seen parts of it,ie road test results in Brooklands series of reprints and in the book,"The Complete MGA". It's interesting to note that the instructions tell you to torque the head to 38 to 40 ft lbs and Stuart Derrington advised me to use 44 lbs.

Vic- What needles are you using on your 1 3/4 SU,s? Thanks Gary
