MG MGA - Firewall panel

What I'm calling the firewall panel is the sheet metal piece bolted to the front of the frame goalpost. It is about 36" long and 10" high, the steering column passes thru it. What is the shape of this piece at the bottom in the middle? Does it go straight across the bottom, or does it roughly follow the transmission/bellhousing curve to ease engine removal? Mine is all chopped up between the two weld nuts near the center of the panel, presumably done to make engine removal/installation easier.

George, It sorta follows the curve of the tranny. Moss shows it in their catalogue but it doesn't say that they sell it. I didn't see any thing showing it in Clausager. Anglo-Parts shows it in the Chassis section, but again, not in their price list.It must be a "do-it-yourself-item" The MGA Service Parts List also shows it in Q1. Would you believe that it is called a "Toeboard Support Assembly" I think I like "Firewall" better. If you wish, I can scan the pictures and E-mail them to you. Or I can try to trace it for you (if I can get a sheet of paper in there).
good luck

George:

Gil is correct. The panel curves to match the curvature of the transmission. I also this that the curved portion has a slightly curved lip that curves outwards (I think)...I'm working off memory here.

If you need to see the panel, e-mail me and I can let you see/borrow my firewall (I'm over in Romeoville). Its off the car right now. This section doesn't look too hard to fabricate.

Thanks for your input Gil/Terry. I intended to repair the chopped up area since the rest of this panel is in pretty good shape. Terry, thanks for the offer, I'll contact you.
