MG MGA - Master Cylinder Cover Gasket

I am replacing the brake master cylinder cover on my 1600. I have the flat version installed and want to replace it with the raised version. How can I remove the cover without damaging the cork gasket or should I just replace the gasket at the same time?

Replace the gasket, preferably with one that is not cork even if you have to cut it your self.
